Suggested Kit list – Oxfordshire Language Nest Homestay

The ‘Kit list’ below includes helpful ideas and suggestions from other students who have previously attended the Oxford Language Nest Homestay programme. I hope you find it useful.
Suitcase, Hold-all, and backpack
- I have a seven-seater car, so we will be really comfortable travelling on our trips. Could I ask you to bring a small ‘carry-on’ suitcase so we can fit all your luggage in the car comfortably? Don’t worry, we can easily clean and dry your clothes if you need to wash them while you’re here.
- It would be helpful if you could also bring your favourite small backpack. This will be used on our trips to carry your packed lunch, if needed, as well as your pens, pencils, and other stationery required for the day (Stationery is provided).
Clothing
- A lightweight coat and gloves in case it rains or is cold when we are out.
- Comfortable leggings, lightweight trousers, or jeans are ideal for our visit, as we will explore different places and walk around to see the best sights.
- T-shirts, vests, and similar tops are great. Layers are beneficial; you can remove or add them when it’s hot or cold.
- Your favourite nightwear for bedtime.
- No formal clothing will be required for this Homestay since we are having fun!
- Comfortable shoes and trainers for outdoor activities and excursions.
- Slippers for indoor lessons and relaxing after a busy day.
- Swimming costume, goggles, and cap. Sometimes, we visit the Aqua Splash at my swimming pool.
Mobile Phones, laptops, iPads, etc
- Electrical items are not required for the Homestay programme.
- Your Homestay programme offers an immersive English language experience where speaking English during lessons and trips is always encouraged. If you would like to contact your family during the week, Vicky will set aside dedicated time for you to do this. Should any of your parents want to reach you, they can always call Vicky on her mobile phone.
- The Homestay programme can be tiring, as you will be learning English and engaging in activities constantly; therefore, getting enough sleep is important.
Drink containers
- Could you bring your favourite lightweight drinks container to ensure you have plenty of fresh water throughout the day?
Money or prepaid cash cards
- You do not need any money for your Homestay programme, as Vicky and her team will provide all agreed upon travel, tickets, food, drinks, and snacks.
- Some students enjoy bringing cash or prepaid cards to purchase souvenirs during trips to Oxford, the ‘Harry Potter’ Warner Bros. Studios tour, and other destinations.
- If you wish to buy souvenirs, I suggest speaking to your parents, who can agree on the appropriate amount of money to bring and the payment method, such as prepaid cards. If you bring cash, I recommend bringing British pounds sterling, as this will be easier for you to use.
- Vicky has participated in many homestay programmes and is available to help you if you wish to buy souvenirs, etc. Of course, she will ensure that you keep your money safe during your homestay if needed.
Stationery, pens & pencils
- You may bring your special pens or pencils; however, all stationery will be provided.
